Nøkken is inspired by the Norwegian Fairytale by the same name. Where a shapeshifting river beast lures women into the river, by any means, and kills them. One minute he is a handsome man playing the fiddle, the next a stunning horse, and the next a beautiful old boat.I don't know why, but I have a strange fascination with the Tragic Heroine figure in stories. Extraordinary women with these extremely cruel fates. It's what the whole album is about, so opening the album with Nøkken felt right.

He'll appear like a flower
you'll yield to his power
his scent is full of sweetness
feeding on your weakness

He looks for the meekest
lures in believers
but be warned if you see him
he's the great deceiver
A handsome devil
plays the harp or fiddle
but his siren sound will take you down

A stunning horse
or an old boat
a wooden log
to help you float
He'll take you down
to the waters edge
and there in that river
he will make you drown.
