Nøkken 03:17
Nøkken He's down by the river past the bogs and the willows he's there if you seek him you'll know when you meet him He'll appear like a flower you'll yield to his power his scent is full of sweetness feeding on your weakness He looks for the meekest lures in believers but be warned if you see him he's the great deceiver A handsome devil plays the harp or fiddle but his siren sound will take you down A stunning horse or an old boat a wooden log to help you float He'll take you down to the waters edge and there in that river he will make you drown.

White Dove 03:08
White Dove My mother and father they loved me they showed me what love was and how to be free the pureness of love in a newborn baby the love I beheld in their piety Their prayers of devotion spoke quietly inspired my passion for things heavenly I gave my life to love complete these are the things you'll never take from me I'd rather be hated and labelled as wild than deny the truth of my innermost child break my will break my mind but from my mouth the white dove flies I'd rather be hanged or burn at the stake than betray my truth and my soul forsake this is a song for the Sovereign self never destroyed, never denied.

Your Mother Was A Peacock As I put my pen to paper your face I see so well the moon guides my hand tonight through the bars of my prison cell In the morning I'll be leaving and dealt a deadly blow and though the world forbids it the truth you shall know I fluffed my cheeks and combed my hair and sang a pretty tune I traded charm for freedom and now death comes too soon How quickly men will scatter how swiftly the do run to guard their reputation and deny what they have done. Your mother was a peacock so soft her feathered hair too beautiful and tender in a world ruled by men. When I was approached by guards to be a secret spy I knew it was my ticket from Berlin to Versaille I had no close relations no suitor could I find my beauty would no more suffice to change the judges mind I have my gloves and fur hat to shield me from the cold but my dear remember, when the gunshots blow, Your mother was a peacock so soft her feathered hair too beautiful and tender in a world ruled by men.

Daddysaurus 05:14
Daddysaurus And as the winds changed, so did my fate All about me held their heads in shame You please the gods to right your wrongs And to the alter, like some filthy dog these are the demands sent from above forsaking me to set your people free Its blood for blood, and it cannot be undone what has been done in this house. Tears streaming down your face, you'll whisper with such grace “Isn't it awful sad?”, “What a waste!” The blood's on your hands, you holy disgrace. My Daddysaurus, I fear your chorus I close my eyes and go to the altar your scapegoat daughter- a lamb to the slaughter. Its blood for blood, and it cannot be undone what has been done in this house.

Ulster Girl 03:11
Ulster Girl Gather round you tender ladies a tale to you I'll tell the murder of an Ulster girl down by the well Her hair was black as ravens dancing in the sun her cheeks crimson as the blood on the pure white snow Why the king would have her murdered the truth nobody knows some say it was the bitterness of unrequited love The king sent his alibi stabbed her with a knife an all the breath was taken from this poor maidens life How many men would follow her tender hearted grace and the many sorrows written on her face So when you see the ravens dancing in the sun pray for the Ulster girl laying in the snow.

Barley Sugar 03:59
Barley Sugar Once I had a true love, a true love all for me we roamed around the back hills young and carefree one day he wore a shirt and tie got down on bended knee handed me a barley sugar and asked to marry me Then one day you stroll in an enigmatic dream your beauty so blinding you stole his heart from me It all happened so fast quick as a rifle shot one day he was with me the next he was not But I'm still waiting in the shadows I'm looking out to see I'm waiting until forever till he comes back to me I have some words for you dear, lean in a listen close he fell in love with me first its me he loves the most when you're dead and buried, your beauty but a ghost he'll be returning to me, its me he loved the most. Until that day I'm waiting, so very patiently I'm waiting until forever, till he comes back to me

Wild Woodbine Smoke filled up the window, the night I did confess You sat at the table, smoking cigarettes. I knew that it was over, you were no longer mine confessions while you smoked another dozen wild woodbine We met when I was 18, when I was just a girl you had such charisma, and knowledge of this world. You wore such dapper outfits, held in high esteem I was intoxicated by your love for me Oh Lord, I love not the man that I am with, but the one that I am not But now your looks have faded and your words they are so few You've become jaded and Ive lost respect for you It all happened so quickly, my lonely heart grew weak my eyes went wandering and another did I seek At first it was so fickle we shared some wine a bread it makes me sick to say it but I laid down in his bed Oh Lord I Iove not the man that I am with, but the one that I am not. Forgive me for my secrets I can no longer keep I wish that I could comfort all the pain that I've caused thee. You'll sit there at the table and you can ask me "why?" you're better off to smoke another dozen wild woodbine Oh Lord I love no the man that I am with, but the one that I am not.

Apples 04:23
Apples The wind was howling late last night As I lay awake in Bed Over and over in my head plot my escape my getaway Your love like apples from a tree But those apples weren't for me Red were the apples round and sweet But those apples weren't for me Morning sends the dew once more And the sparrows song forlorn For it is time for her to go Leaving the shadows of this home The sun goes up and the sun goes down burning circles make no sound edging toward the morning light leaving behind a dreadful night Little rabbit in the lawn Little rabbit in the lawn How is it that you get along? Won't you return and share with me The rivers wide and the rivers deep and the willows gently weep Love cannot thrive and cannot grow Where the waters of justice do not flow The starling in the winter flocks To a land she knows not Only the wind to guide and show My bags are packed and I must go Your love like apples from a tree But those apples weren't for me Red were the apples round and sweet But those apples weren't for me.

Samois-sur-Seine Just south of Paris where the tender reeds bend In the riverside town of Samois-sur-Seine Inside the chapel high on a heath there lies my son in the crypt underneath Sometimes I go there to mourn and weep Lay a white lilly at the foot of his grave Praying my prayers to God above Light a little candle for the one I love Meet me in the chapel in Samois-sur-Seine where the willow trees bow and the tender reeds bend Memories of you I'll never forget Goodbye for now Samois-sur-Seine I'll be returning to see you my dear back to this place year after year for now I'll be leaving for now I must go I'll love you more than you'll ever know Goodbye to you love hard as it will be I'll think of you often and pray for thee if there's a heaven up in the air when my time comes I'm meeting you there

Midnight Hags We stay in the dark where its damp and cold We're haggard, we're old We do what we're told We know, what we know we cannot un-know Our gifts a burden Our knowledge a curse We're truth in rags We're midnight hags

about

"Sometimes a completely beautiful song is the most powerful way to say Fuck You.” says OXLIP who hails from Northern Ireland but currently lives in Vancouver, BC.

OXLIP's recent work, 'Your Mother Was A Peacock', was nominated for EMERGING ARTSIST OF THE YEAR by the 2022 Canadian Folk Music Awards

The album was compared vocally and tonally to Phoebe Bridgers and The Weather Station and was coined as 'The Future of Folk' by Folk-Alley in the US. It's title track landed on the Spotify Editorial Playlist Folk & Friends along with Fleet Foxes and Iron & Wine. She was interviewed on CBC radio’s The Last Chapter by Shelagh Rogers, and was 'Album of the Week' on UK’s 'Along The Tracks' radio.

Much of her music stylistically is a nod to her unmistakable traditional folk influence. Like a true Appalacian mountain ballad, her songs are simple, with less than simple content- Death and the Metaphysical being some of the topics she likes to sing about.

OXLIP is a multi-instrumentalist and self-produces her own material. She's also the CEO and founder of recording studio and record label for women, World Peach Records.
